Ask Cynthia a Question – August 9, 2012

Cindy 2003 Photo smallPat’s question: My husband is a meat and potatoes man, not an adventurous eater at all and on top of that he has a sensitive stomach. He can’t tolerate spicy foods. I am so bored with the meals we have. Do you have any suggestions for healthy but sort of plain dishes?

My answer: I know what you mean; my father was the same way. Poor guy suffered all his life with a sensitive stomach. A dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, Cayenne pepper (just to name a few spices) would nearly put him in the hospital. In looking back I think that’s partially why he was a “meat and potatoes” man; to him the plain foods represented safe foods. For many years it was frustrating for my mother because she was more experimental in the kitchen and wanted to try new recipes. THIS WEEK’S RECIPE (above) for AND SO ON…CROCK POT ROAST is something I think my dad would have fully enjoyed, perhaps your husband will too. Thank you, Pat, for your question and your interest in Ask Cynthia a Question.
