Cindy 2003 Photo smallFrancine’s question: What kind of roast do you like to cook on the grill, and how do you prepare it for grilling?

My answer: Recently Tri-Tip roast has been the star on our grill thanks to a good friend who gave us the “tip” on how nicely this roast cooks up. WOW! Was she right!

I purchase a fairly flat roast if I can find it. Season it on both sides with McCormick Grill Mates 20% Less Sodium Montreal Steak Seasoning and a light dusting of kosher salt. Marinate in the refrigerator for a few hours, or longer if time permits. Take it out of the refrigerator a couple hours before grilling.

Sear on both sides and then place roast on upper level grate to slowly cook to desired doneness. Tri-Tip should have at least some pink in the center for maximum tenderness. Allow roast to rest for a minimum of 10 minutes; slice thin (as with flank steak) to serve. The same friend says she purchases her Tri-Tip roasts at Costco in a package of two, which comes pre-seasoned and they are melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Mmm, my mouth is watering!
